Chipotle is testing tofu-based “Sofritas” at seven San Francisco area restaurants in February. The menu addition is an attempt to attract vegetarians and vegans.
“We are changing the way people think about and eat fast food,”
Chipotle founder and co-CEO said in a statement.
“Sofritas is a very different menu item not just for Chipotle, but for any fast food or fast causal restaurant,” Ells continued. “It was really conceived with vegetarians and vegans in mind, but it’s so delicious that we believe it will have a broad appeal on taste alone.”
In line with its eco-friendly image, Chipotle picked an organic, non-GMO tofu supplier called Hodo Soy.
